“Life and Prison in Palestine: A Cartoonist’s Eye” is the title of the US-wide tour that Mohammad Sabaaneh will be undertaking around the United States, April 24 through May 22. Just World Educational is the organizer and principal sponsor of this tour– and we are honored and delighted to work with a broad network of supporters and community organizations around the country that are hosting a numerous, very varied events to introduce this talented Palestinian cartoonist and his powerful message to the U.S. public.
In preparation for the tour, we have created an online tour calendar. Check back there often, as many events have yet to be finalized and to have their details added.
Event hosts: please send all event details as speedily as possible to our Outreach Director, Steve Fake, so he can get them onto the calendar.
And be sure to make your arrangements for selling Mohammad’s new book White And Black: Political Cartoons from Palestine, with as much lead time as possible! Shipping books gets expensive really fast if you leave this too late. The options for community groups hosting tour events are (a) have a local bookstore do the selling, as an “offsite” for them; (b) your org does the selling and makes a modest profit from doing so; or (c) in some cases JWE/JWB staff can be available to do book sales. Please discuss your choice and place any orders with our Office Manager, Dina Brigish.
We’ve just posted a short video of Mohammad talking about and sharing his work, that Steve Fake shot in Ramallah last week. (Pardon our rudimentary video-editing skillz there… ) We created this press kit that people hosting events or doing media outreach around them can use.
We’ve also created a special category for the tour here on the JWE blog, on which we will post updates, news reports, links, photos, videos, and everything else about the tour, as we go along. This can keep us all in touch as the tour progresses and can also help us to create a lasting record of it. The link to the category is here.
Also, for those of you on Twitter, let’s use the hashtag #SabaanehTour to stay in touch.
And once the tour starts we warmly invite event hosts and everyone else who has great materials from Mohammad’s events– video, photos, blog-posts, audio, livetweeted essays, news reports from the local media– to send them along to us.
His message is so powerful! Let’s share it as broadly as we can!
